All School Meeting Day

Today, both boys had all school meetings. It's where the kids get recognized for their accomplishments and their parents can come and watch. Today Adam's All School Meeting included a play called 'Mrs. Wishy Washy' that the kindergarten classes put on. It was cute. When the meeting was over, Todd and I went over to see Adam and say 'Hi' to him, when his teacher told me a funny story. First, I need to say really quick that yesterday the boys got haircuts and some blond color put in their hair. Both of the boys had to sit 'under the heat' in the special chair. So, when Adam got to school today he asked his teacher if she ever sat in the 'old lady chair' at the haircut place. It made her laugh. My question is was he just asking the question in general or was he referring to something else?
The main news is Spencer was on the 'A' honor roll again and he received the 'Citizen of the Month' Award. That is where the kids in his class vote in a student that has been a good example, treats people respectfully, and other reasons the kids might think this person deserves this special award. YEAY Spencer!!! I think he's a great kid, so it's awesome that other people agree. I wanted to get a picture of
Spencer with his teacher, Ms. Fisher. She has always thought he is a wonderful kid. She's been good for him. So at the end of the day, I had no doubt that I had the brightest, funnist kids ever.

Another Tuesday Grinde

Today Lily, Sara and I are just hanging out. Sara isn't feeling great, Lily is watching Scooby Doo and I have a crap load of stuff to get done. How in the heck did all this laundry pile up? O' I know, my kids think changing into several outfits a day is acceptable, there is also a herd of people that inhabit my home, and probably the biggest culprit is that I HATE laundry. I actually hate folding it and putting it away. I really need to enlist the help of my children more frequently. Yeah right!
Last night, the kids and I decided to surprise Todd and grab him from work. He works about 1 hour away. So after we all jumped in the burb, I put a movie on, we headed out in search of Daddy. He works underground, and doesn't have cell phone coverage, so I was panicked we weren't going to get to him before he left with his car pool. We made it. The kids (and I) were so excited for him to come out of the building, we could hardly contain ourselves. After we found him, we went to Little America and had dinner with Todd's brother (Gene), sister-in-law (Barb) and nephew (Jim). I swear we haven't 'known' Jim that long but he is a warm and fun person. (Todd is 18 years younger than his brother, so most of the nieces and nephews are Todd's age.) I feel like I've known him my whole life. He fits in with all the crazy banter and dishes it out with impeccable timing. Plus I adore Todd's siblings and their spouses. It was a great night just talking about parenting, kids, work, and everything else in between.

The Oprah-Obama Cult

When I first saw this it upset me, then it made me giggle. It's just another example of "If you don't believe the way I do, then you are wrong!" I have always thought that there is more than one way to God, but some people believe it's their way or no way. Whatever! So, in saying this, I am loving this book, so I guess I'm a member of the Oprah-Obama Cult.

AAADD-KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.......

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. I constantly feel this way. My best friend read this and thought "OMG, they followed Melea around for the day."

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back
on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think,
since I'm going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Coke aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Coke is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Coke on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day,
and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
and I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my e-mail....

I thought this was adorable. This is a Korean toddler, I think she does a pretty good job.

TGIF

Today was crazy busy. I felt like I had a million things to do and only a short time to do it in. It was just the normal errands and of course a massive amount of housework. But it was still a ton. Sara is still up on her hands and big toes trying so hard to crawl. She's doing kind of a lunge motion and usually gets whatever it is she's reaching for. When I tried to get a picture of her doing this she seriously wouldn't even budge.
The kids had early release from school today. They got home at 12:30 and did some chores (yes, I am that mean of a Mom) and played with the neighbor kids for hours. Our neighbor Nicolle, watched the kids for me so my running around would be easier. (I only had Sara. That was soooo much easier.) At the end of the day, they were exhausted and wanted to eat and play video games.
However, when Todd got home from work they decided that they really wanted to jump on the tramp with him. The boys have made up a game where when they are jumping, they cannot let a ball touch them. It was funny to watch them play tonight.
Lily was a little better today. She was only sassy 50 times instead of 100 times. I've been trying time outs a little more consistently. It's helping I guess. She's still ornery but we'll keep working on it. I vow that Princess Lil' will NOT be a Diva.

Labels On Lily

So for the last few weeks Todd and I have been struggling with Lily. She has developed quite a Diva-ish attitude. Todd refers to her as a 'Prim Madonna'. I hate to label kids but these are sticking right now. Everything has a whine behind it, there is a nasty bite in her words and man, if looks could kill, trust me our whole family would be dead. O' My Gosh!!! We are at a loss. Do we duct tape her, ground her, take her toys away? I don't want her to become one of those rotten kids on Supernanny. Maybe that's what we need is Jo. She'll come fix it all. The other issue we have been dealing with is she has decided to be 'independent'. Not only is "I do it MYSELF", a phrase we hear constantly throughout our day, but she has now started to disappear. This last week, she has showed up at our neighbor's houses. Our neighbor Melynda, called me worried because when she got home
Lily was waiting for her so she could play with her kids. She has also been known to sneak off to play with her friend Emme across the street. Then to make matters even worse, she thought that it would be okay to sneak away from her Daddy in Utah on Tuesday. I don't think I've EVER seen him angrier or more scared than that moment. What a stinker. I swear we turn or heads for one minute (go potty, make dinner, heck even go into another room for a minute) and she is gone. What am I going to do with our wonderer? I think I'm going to need a leash and some duct tape.

Isn't She Lovely

Sara is 7 months old today. Where the heck did that time go? She is sooooo close to crawling. She gets up on her big toes and her hands and rocks. I don't want her to crawl yet, so I sit her back on her bum. (JK, not ALL the time.) Todd thinks it's funny to help her 'practice' when I'm not around. We both know it will happen when she's ready, but we both have our own agenda and no one is backing down. Adam and Lily are also helping me on my quest by constantly picking her up and packing her around. She's one tough baby, because she is constantly being bounced and jostled, but also soft and squishy from lots and lots of love.
Anyway, she is so stinkin' cute and we adore her. As you can see, she's easy to squeeze and munch on. With those blue eyes of her's, she studies and takes in everything around her, but she also breaks into smiles so easily. What a sweet sugar.

* A quick update on Norm, he had a few complications after surgery and is in ICU. He had a breathing and feeding tube put in and seems to be holding his own. He hasn't had much progress nor has he declined in the last few days.

Many Birthday Parties

We had a busy weekend, filled with birthday parties. Friday, Adam had a classmate's birthday party to go to. This birthday party had real instruments the kids were able to play, this was music to Adam's ears, in every way imaginable. He loves the drums, guitar and of course the microphone. When you're in kindergarten, there are some interesting songs you learn to sing. And Adam had mastered most of them. Sometimes with some help from Spencer. He had a great time. He came home with some interesting stories.
It was also Birthday weekend for 2 of Arlene's Kids. Kamryn turned 3 and Konnor turned 10. We got Kamryn a playdoh set and Konnor a basketball. Kamryn's party started at 3:00. It included a BBQ, presents, and cake. Then, Konnor had his birthday party at 5:00 at the pool. Followed by cake. We were all tired by the end of the day and high on sugar. (That is my favorite emotion.)It was so much fun.
Lily was being a rock star and insisted on a picture. She is so cute.
She wants to be just like Daddy and Spencer. Sheryl Crow watch out.
I have to tell you, the weather here has been crazy. It was a nasty Winter and we were hoping for a nice Spring, but one day it's 65 degrees and the next it's 29 degrees. WTF. Seriously. I refuse to put my flip-flops back in the closet, so those 29 degree days better start getting fewer and farther between or my pretty painted toenails are going to freeze.

Shift Work

Posted by Picasa

Todd has a really good job, but he has to work graveyards. Tonight is the last one of this 'set'. He leaves at 4:30pm and gets home at 7:00am. And sleeps the vast majority of the day. So we miss him pretty bad. The upside to those nasty graveyards in that he works 5 days and then has 5 days off. That's kind of how his schedule works. I am thankful for his job, even though I'm bitching. In 15 years of marriage we have only had health insurance for 5 of those and 3 of those have been because of Todd's current job. He also has an opportunity for a pension and a 401k, plus, for the first time in our lives, we have life insurance on EVERYONE in our immediate family. This may seem like something everyone is used to, but for us it's only a recent development. And it's something Todd's Dad has never had. But I miss him, the kids miss him. So we are thankful and blessed, but that doesn't mean I have to like graveyards.

Lots of Little Things

First and foremost I need to tell you that Norm came through surgery and is doing well. There's not a lot to tell you other than he is stable and still very disoriented. Hopefully after a few more rounds of dialysis, he will be back to his sweet, way to charming self. He has a long road a head of him regarding recovery, but hopefully he will handle everything OK.

Michelle Obama was on The Colbert Report Tuesday and handled herself really well. Stephen can be sooo silly and ask inappropriate questions. Michelle is a beautiful, smart, insightful person. She seemed to see right through him and was still able to laugh at his silliness. It was a fun show. Hillary Clinton is going to be on his show tonight. I can't wait. Hillary can laugh at herself, it'll be interesting to see how she does tonight. And what comes out of Stephen's mouth.

American Idol was exciting. Krisy Lee Cook FINALLY went home. I can't stand her. His Royal Yumminess, David Cook was awesome Tuesday. I absolutely love him. (I think I might have mentioned that.) Enjoy.

I've Come To Realize

1. I've come to realize that my boobs...
ummmmm... do I really want to say how I feel about this.
Let's just say they serve many purposes, non of which are sexy.
(My husband was upset when he read this. They serve more purposes than I previously admitted to.)

2. I've come to realize that when I talk..
I really expect people to listen and sometimes complete my sentences, and I really need to slow down.

3. I've come to realize that when I love someone..
I expect the same amount of unconditional love in return.

4. I've come to realize that I need..
Therapy, Room to Breath, to be Relevant, and Coffee.

5. I've come to realize that I have lost..
Way too many people, way too early in life and my Nana's Necklace.

6. I've come to realize that I hate..
Cooked carrots, feeling out of control, dealing with my MIL, and Spiders.

7. I've come to realize that if I'm drunk...
I've only been drunk a few times and I felt pukey and out of control. Nasty.

8. I've come to realize that money...
There is never enough, it doesn't buy happiness, but it sure makes life easier.

9. I've come to realize that some people…
Are horrible people, bent on hurt and hate. But most are not.

10.I've come to realize that I'll always be....
Searching for something

11.I've come to realize that when I say I love you....
I mean it most of the time, but sometimes I just want chocolate.

12. I've come to realize that when a man needs a friend..
I need to listen and not talk (yes, Honey, I admit it.)

13, I've come to realize that my cell phone is..
not as something I want to be without and a wonderful invention.

14. I've come to realize that when I woke up this morning...
It was going to be a good day, I was no longer bitchy.

15. I've come to realize that before I go to sleep at night...
I need to clean my kitchen, read, and possibly take an Ambien.

16. I've come to realize that right now, I am thinking about...
How few vacation days Todd has left, How Norm is doing, If Becky has made it home, If Val's okay, Worries about Spencer, Adam's ears not working, Lily dance moves, Sara's fussiness, How my brothers are, ect...(see why I need therapy).

17. I've come to realize that babies...
Are my crack and the most fulfilling, wonderful little things in the world.

18. I've come to realize that when I get on My Blog..
I look forward to comments (especially from Pat).

19. I've come to realize that today...
I didn't get my laundry finished. My couch is still full. And it might still there tomorrow. ( Who really cares?!!??!!?)

20. I've come to realize that tonight....
I have no other choice but to watch American Idol and miss Michael Johns and look forward to seeing David Cook. (yummo)

21. I've come to realize that tomorrow...
Will be busy. Mommy craziness all day.

22. I've come to realize that I really want to...
To fix my abandonment issues, remember the words that I want to say, enjoy every minute of life, and not be so quick tempered.

23. I've come to realize that the person who is most likely to repoond to this is...
It'll be fun to see who comments.

I'm a Slug

I have been such a freakin' slug this last week with my blog. Sorry guys. Last week was crazy. Todd's Dad went into the hospital with a fractured neck on Monday. His recent staph infection (in his neck) deteriorated the vertebra in his neck and last Monday morning he fell at his home and fractured the already extremely weak bones in his neck. So he is in the hospital for a while. He will have surgery tomorrow to place metal rods in his neck and hopefully give him a chance at living life as normally as possible again. His health has been unstable the last few months and we all worry and hope the surgery will go well.

Saturday Arlene, Sara and I spent all day shopping in Park City. It was so much fun. We spent tooooo much money, shopped until we couldn't shop anymore, ate out twice, and had 2 rounds of Starbucks. We had a blast, there was no time schedule, no place we had to be, no screaming fits (well maybe a few, when I didn't get my way), and most of all we had a great time just talking and being together.

American Idol

Tonight I watched American Idol. It was their 'Idol Gives Back' special and I am always impressed. It makes me realize all of my blessings. I am healthy, my family is healthy and happy. I have a wonderful relationship with my husband. I have 4 beautiful, feisty kids which I adore. I have 5 great brothers. I have a wonderful support system of friends. I am surrounded by love and live a pretty good life.
I look around and see so many more things that I am blessed with. My home, vehicles, Todd's job, my kid's education, heck, even mine & Todd's education. The list could go on and on for days. Then I look at someone, whether here or in another country, that have virtually nothing. I feel guilty for my 'whoa is me' days. I think I would go crazy if I had to live like a lot of people have to live. I was shocked by the poverty that is so prevalent in America. I don't know if I am naive or just uninformed but I had little idea about a lot of it. Especially the Appalachian area of our country. America, America has these issues. I am shocked at what our priorities are. Something desperately needs to change. And soon. Children should not live in poverty. They don't have a say or the abilitiy to make things better.
And then there were the little African children. That is were my next baby should come from. My heart broke for them and their situations. Everytime I see anything about the conditions in some of the African countries, it saddens me. I feel overwhelmed with not knowing what do. Someday, when my kids are grown, I will be there, helping in every way I can. I guess until then I donate a little, and try to raise socially conscience kids and hope I can some how make a difference.

Spencer (Michael) Jordan

Spencer has fallen in love with sports. He's pretty good too. Right now he loves basketball. And kicks butt. He gets along really well with our neighbor, Kaylynn. She is also awesome at basketball. So they were playing outside a few weeks ago and Adam took some great pictures of them with his new kid's camera. The picture quality isn't great, but he got some really great shots. Anyway, Spencer is planning on joining baseball this summer. It's fun watching him evolve and find things he loves. By the way, he's on the 'A' honor roll again. What a genius.
Our neighborhood is filled with kids and luckily, for the most part, they all get along great. We all have trampolines and toys, the kids bounce from house to house. One of our neighbors and dear friends are going to be moving. Spencer realized this a few days ago and was devastated. He is really good friends with their 9 year old Ethan. The have very similar personalities and love to make up fighting games. They will be missed.
As you can see, the snow has been hanging around. I am sooo done with snow. This weekend it's supposed to get up to 70 degrees in Utah, so hopefully we will reach 60. Warm would be good. We are all wanting to be outside. I think our whole family has cabin fever.

Lazy Saturday

I got some really cute pictures of Todd and Sara tonight. They were just hanging out playing with toys. All of our kids have loved to slobber on Todd head and use it as a drum, it cracks me up.
Sara does this adorable little dance we call the 'Happy Girl'. She wiggles her little body, moves her arms and smiles so big that her eyes disappear somewhere in her cheeks. She's so stinkin' cute.
Today we did a whole lot of nothing. The last few weeks have been crazy. So it was nice to do nothing. I did get to watch a whole movie (Mansfield Park) without pausing it once. This is such a rare treat for me. It was great!

Birthday Party

Today we had family and friends over for dinner and banana splits to celebrate my birthday. Joey is pictured here holding Sara. How cute! He's not flipping someone off. Both Joey and John, flip me off when I try to take a picture of them. Ha-Ha! I have very few pictures of them NOT flipping me off.
This is my brother John. He was so cute with Sara tonight. He was also trying to feed her ice cream! What an Uncle. As I've mentioned before, he tries his hardest to get the kids to cuss and sometimes succeeds. Tonight he had Lily saying a few choice cuss words. He loves to see me squirm.
Adam, Spencer, Lily, Quintin, and Savanna played outside until it was to cold and then came in for some dinner and some Wii playing.
Lily was all dressed up in a summer dress and Arlene's shoes. What a cutie! We had a lot of fun just hanging out. There was lots of discussion about American Idol. Yes, David Cook was discussed and the conclusion was that he is HOT!! O' and he is talented. There were random conversations going on everywhere. I look up one time and see the guys talking about Mining and the girls getting very board with that subject rather quickly. We also visited about about many friends and goings on around our town. It's funny because we know everyone. So there is usually a thought about who ever or what ever. We had so much fun just hanging out. I love being with my brothers and their families. I also love being with my friends. It was a perfect night. Happy Birthday to Me!!!! Thank you to everyone.

"Mom"???

Tonight my little Adam says "Mom, so & so thinks Buddha is fake. Is that true?" To which I reply "Seriously Son, he said that?" "Yup, he did." Came the reply. I just have to say really quick, our new 'Burb' has 4 'fish' on it. One is a Jesus fish (we teach our family about Christianity), one is a Buddha fish (we teach our family some of Buddha's teachings), another is an Evolve Fish (even though we are Christians, we do believe in the science of evolution AND the process of Creationism) and the other one is a Yoda fish (simply put, we believe in the Force). We have also displayed 2 magnets. One says "Tolerance" and the other says "Coexist". OK, that is the basis of spirituality what we try to teach our kids. Believe in many things, accept other cultures, enjoy spirituality. Embrace it. Well, when a comment like this is made, what do I say? How do I turn this into a learning experience? "Well Adam, I believe in this.......Tell me what you believe." By then he has forgotten about it and has moved on. But he is also my child who we sometimes refer to as the 'Bible Thumper'. He talks about "The Heavenly Lord" and has been known to pack a Bible around. I don't refer to God or Jesus as "The Heavenly Lord" nor do I pack a Bible around. It's just not my thing, but we are trying so hard to let our kids figure out THEIR spirituality all by themselves and as long as there is no disrespect, he can say and do whatever he believes (spiritually speaking). This does tend to be difficult when so many around him believe so strongly in a different path and critically speak their mind about it. I have learned, through many years of being around people with this mind set, you can not force religion, it has to be felt, whole heartedly. And I want to be open minded about it, letting my kids have their own experience with spirituality. I feel like this is going to be a huge challenge with many opportunities to face and work on my own spirituality while teaching my kids about tolerance and learning to coexist.

Sweet Potato

Sara is eating sweet poataoes. What a big deal this is at our house. She's been nursing like a maniac. So I tried solids again, this time she ate a little bit. YEAY!!! Such a big girl.
Spencer was helping with taking pictures during our adventure. He does a pretty good job. We gave him an old camera and he is a rockstar with it. He's been capturing some candid moments (good ones) and they look pretty darn great. Anyway, he did a great job with these pictures. Plus he was helping with feeding her.
In this picture she was eating a biter biscut while enjoying those sweet potates. She's messy and having a great time. I love how expressive her big blue eyes are and how she has her own sweet little personality all ready.
After eating her dinner she decided she should help take some pictures and reached for the camera.
She was messy from head to toe so I didn't let her help. She's so stinkin' cute!!!
